Navigating the ‘new normal’

Barely a few months after the first confirmed infection, India has overtaken many other countries to record the world’s third highest COVID caseload. India has seen a series of record spikes, adding tens of thousands of cases daily. It recorded most of its confirmed cases in July, within weeks of reopening after a rigid lockdown

As of August 17th, India has 2.65 million confirmed cases. The curve is frightening, not flattening. Schools remain closed, eliminating the mid-day meal support children had available to them. Teachers grapple with technology, daily wage labourers struggle to find work, hospitals are over-run (and sometimes flooded!), and cultural festivals and religious celebrations are all halted. Mumbai’s public transport – both buses and the lifeline train service – is restricted to only government and BMC staff with special passes.

Collaboration has been key in our operations. We have partnered with other grassroots level NGOs and community-based organisations like Vision Rescue, Prerana, YWAM, Jeevan Pravah Sanstha and others to expand support to more vulnerable people. Generous donors like the DAK Foundation and Kelloggs India have also been of tremendous help. With this support TBR has provided over 1.5 million meals since the first lockdown!

Poshak Aahar: In Vikramgadh (Palghar) studies showed that 71.69% of the children were malnourished. The Rotary . Club District 3141 started a nutrition program with TBR for the academic year to provide monthly meal boxes to 750 children across Mumbai and Palghar.

DSM’s Anaemia Awareness: Pharma major DSM is helping TBR reach a goal of helping 10,000 women understand the dangers of anaemia and also to distribute iron-folic supplements to pregnant women and lactating mothers.

No Kid Hungry: Part of Share our Strength, No Kid Hungry has very recently joined hands with TBR to fight malnutrition and morning hunger among school/anganwadi children! NKH’s support will help us reach out and provide meals to 700 kids through community networks while schools remain closed.

TBR is also proud to sponsor and provide nutritious breakfasts to 550 frontline healthcare workers and patients at the renowned JJ Hospital!
